1- Visit the Castillo de San José

This castle was built in 1776 by King Charles III. Here is located The International Museum of Contemporary Art where exhibitions and important conferences are held. You can also enjoy views of the port of Naos and the Muelle de los Marmoles. The museum is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

2- Carnival in Lanzarote

If you are in Lanzarote from mid-February to March 1st you can enjoy and be part of its beautiful and colorful Carnival.

The carnival is a public celebration that combines costumes, contests, Great Parade of Chariots with the participation of batucadas, murgas, comparsas, choreographies and popular parties in the street. The carnival program can be obtained free of charge at the Ayuntamiento, Tourist Office or Casa de la Cultura.

3- Meet Playa Papagayo

Papagayo is a beautiful and relaxing south beach in Lanzarote. It measures almost two kilometers and has several coves named El Pozo, Playa Mujeres, Puerto Muelas, Caleta del Congrio and El Papagayo. These coves are surrounded by low islets that provide the bather with greater tranquility, privacy and absolute freedom.

The waters of Papagayo are transparent, turquoise blue and excellent for snorkeling. From here you can see the islet of Lobos and the island of Fuerteventura.

4- Free walking tours

Organized by Arrecife Culture, they are ideal for family trekking and learn the stories of lime and water, energy and wind, salt, among others, told in a fun and didactic way. It is held on a Sunday a month, begins on 12/02/2017 and ends on 07/16/2017. Its journey lasts between 2 and 3 hours.

6- Practice extreme sports

Lanzarote is the right place for those who prefer extreme sports. For those who practice Surfing, the beaches on the north side of Barlovento are ideal for experienced surfers, while beginners will find beaches and coves in the south of the island, with smaller waves. Lovers of kitesurfing Windsurf, also find excellent places to catch good waves and have the wind guaranteed most of the days of the year. The wild terrain and rugged landscape make cyclists the perfect place to test their skills, have fun and train paths full of vertigo ups and downs, taking mountain biking to the limit. Some of the recommended routes to visit are Las salinas de los cocoteros, Teguise and La Geria.

7- Discover the Ajaches Natural Park – Papagayo Point

The great Ajaches mountain is one of the oldest volcanic formations of the whole island. In the Natural Park of 3000 hectares of extension, we find beautiful coves, secluded beaches and paths for hiking.

Near the beach of Puerto Muelas, we will find one of only two official campsites in the whole island. It has drinking water and a place to camp with caravans or tents. The cars have to pay around three euros to enter the park, but walkers and cyclists come free.

8- Haria-El Bosquecillo Hiking Trail

This route has a distance of 7 kilometers. Its journey lasts about an hour and a half, walking between crops and arid landscapes with sea bottom. The difficulty is medium-low. Ideal for sport and disconnect contemplating nature

There is ample space for barbecues and has children’s games. From the viewpoint of El Bosquecillo you can see Famara, the Yellow Mountain and the island of La Graciosa (Chinijo). This route is suitable for family travel, since its level of difficulty is medium-low.

9- Enjoy Fishing

Lanzarote is an island with abundant marine life, which makes it perfect for fishing.

Depending on the time of year you can find different species such as Marlín Azul, Sierra, Anjova, Pargo, Peto, Marlín Blanco, Sama, Barracuda (spetón), Bonito, Medregal (serviola),Dorado. In autumn they add the Red Tuna and also the one of yellow fin. With natural bait you can also fish some mackerel, bream and sea bass.
