Weekend surfing getaway: What to bring?

Weekend surfing getaway

You just have to take the necessary precautions to surf safely depending on your level.

So have you planned to get away this weekend? Do you already know what to wear? Well, although it seems very routine it is always good to review the list of essential elements that you should not forget to take with you, especially if you are a beginner in this sport.

Suitable equipment

The temperatures have dropped a lot and it is necessary that you bring warm clothes and a thick neoprene suit, with quality seams and of the appropriate size, so that you keep your body warm, despite the temperature that you may find in the spot in the one you’re going to surf.

Take an extra strap

In winter the waves are stronger and more constant. If your leash is cut, having an extra one guarantees that you will not lose your board in the sea.

Don’t forget the sunscreen

Yes! Even if you do not see the sun as bright as in summer, you can also suffer burns from the reflection of the water. That is why every time you go to catch waves you must protect your skin very well: face, ears, hands and all parts of your body that are exposed.

There are special zinc-based protectors, they are ideal for use in the aquatic environment since they are thicker and do not go so easily with water.

Keel keys

To face all the swell conditions that the ocean may present, it is very practical to carry your keys, to be able to exchange the fins of your board as you need them.

Surf wax

Pick one that is suitable for the water temperature where you are going to surf. Remember that softer waxes are suitable for cold weather surfing, while hard waxes are used in warmer weather waters.

Practical elements

We are talking about a mat so you can change your wet clothes, thermal shirts, an easy-drying towel, hot drinks, nutritious and healthy foods, such as nuts or cereal bars, that will provide you with the calories you need.

As you can see, there is no reason why you cannot step on the beach with your board in winter. Make sure you bring all the items you need and know in advance how the waves will be and the intensity of the winds during the days you plan to make your getaway.

Surfing is a sport that can

Be practiced throughout the year. The advantage of winter is that there will be fewer people, therefore you will not have to deal with crowds and you can catch the best waves.
