¿Surfing in Fuerteventura? All You need is…

The basic equipment necessary for you to start surfing on the beaches of Fuerteventura is to have a neoprene suit, wax and a good board.

The thickness of the neoprene will depend on the temperature of the water on the beach where you are going to surf. Normally Fuerteventura has warm beaches, suitable for short and thin suits in summer, although in winter the suit must be a bit thicker.

The wax helps you to stay on the board without slipping. It can be supplemented or replaced by a non-slip rubber pad.

To make the surfboards, it is necessary to give the shape of the foam and then coat it with fiberglass and polyester (glazing). When choosing the ideal table for you, you should know that there are different types and that your weight, height and level of experience are fundamental factors when making a correct choice.

According to the size, the tables can be differentiated into:

Shortboard or Thruster:

They are narrower and thinner boards that offer a greater margin of fast maneuvers but do not increase the speed. Its measurements can be from 1.5m to 2.1m in length and are designed to climb larger waves, so they are suitable for intermediate surfers.

Longboard or Malibu:

These are thicker boards than Shortboards. They can measure from 2.75m. These tables allow you to maneuver longer and at higher speeds.

Evolutionary:

They are large and thick tables between 49 and 52 cm. It offers many possibilities of maneuvers.

Fish: tables with a rounded contour, shorter and wider than the evolutionary ones. From 1.70m  to 1.90m and 52 cm or more in width. They are perfect tables to catch small waves.

Mini Malibu:

Stable tables, between 2.20 and 2.60 meters. They are recommended for beginner or intermediate level surfers.

Gun:

They are specific tables for expert level and surf big waves.

Choose the table according to your level of skill in the water. Remember that the larger the size, the less maneuverable the table will be.

A wide design will be more resistant, stable and with greater buoyancy. This is the ideal design for beginners.

If you are looking for the best balance between maneuverability and speed, choose a Shortboard to enjoy all wave conditions.
